Choosing The Right Austin Locksmith

Posted on December 21, 2014 by Owner in Uncategorized

Which Austin Locksmith should I choose?
locksmith Austin TX
There are many reasons for needing a locksmith. Some of the more common reasons are for rekeys, automotive lockouts, residential lock outs, repairs after a break in, fresh lock installations, and the list goes on and on. How do you know which one you should call? Here are some tips for choosing the right locksmith in Austin, Tx.

  • Make sure the Austin locksmith company is licensed, bonded, and insured. If a locksmith is not willing to give you their ID or license number, there’s a good chance they’re untrained scammers that shouldn’t be trusted with your security.
  • Look up locksmiths before you actually need one. This is a good habit to get into with any service you may need including locksmiths, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, or any service company. It is really beneficial to take a few minutes to read online reviews of several different companies, and keep one or two trusty ones in your contact list for emergencies. Angie’s list, Yelp, and Google Plus are three trustworthy site where consumers write honest reviews about their service. Another way to get good advice is to ask a few of your neighbors who they’ve used in the past for their locksmith services. Your neighbors will generally be honest, about the service, rates, and overall value that they received.
  • Be aware of non-local locksmiths pretending to be from your area. There are companies that will buy multiple ads in the phone book and Google adwords to pretend they’re local. They usually answer with a generic greeting like “locksmith service.” Some dead giveaways is that they will list a local phone number, but wont list in address. This is because they don’t have a location in your area. They have a few poorly trained “locksmiths” that often overcharge and end up damaging your hardware.
  • Once you find an Austin locksmith that you trust, be sure to keep their number on file, so that you don’t have to risk getting poor service in the future. It’s much better to stick with the same reputable locksmith each time, than to risk getting an untrained or overpriced one in the future. You also won’t have to worry about a new set of hands having access to your lock and key information. When it comes to your security, the less people involved, the better. The other advantage is that you may get some kind of discount or rebate as a thank you for your loyalty and returned business.
